To accurately calculate the emissions associated with passenger flights on each of the city pair combinations offered across our network, we undertook a comprehensive greenhouse gas life cycle assessment of the emissions associated with our operations. This life cycle assessment was independently verified by the Department of Climate Change as part of the certification process that enabled Jetstar to achieve Greenhouse Friendly™ accreditation. Whilst the majority of emissions are produced by flying operations, this assessment also included an analysis of emissions associated with Jetstar's ground-based activities.
After calculating the emissions produced by each city pair combination on our network over a twelve month period, and taking into account the emissions associated with the carriage of freight, we were able to calculate a per passenger emission figure for each city pair.
This process provided an accurate and reliable basis for the calculation of passenger emission figures, and ensured that we could offer our passengers the option to offset the entire carbon footprint produced by their journey.
